Reviewing my notes from a few years ago, it appears that I am having some of the same issues with loading Slurm and creating a chroot file during the FAI install
Do I need to preload anything before the Qlustar install?

As I recall, there was a missing firmware file for the network adapter back then. You could check /var/log/kern.log whether there is a similar message this time as well. Shouldn't be though, since all firmware files from kernel.org are included now in the installer.
